Randal Quick

Army Veteran – Gamer – Designer – Creator

About Randal Quick

Whether it is taking apart my first computer in middle school, or learning more coding languages beyond what is being taught in my college classes, I am always trying to learn something. From simply keeping up with the rapid changes within the technological industry, to history research, to astrophysics reading for fun.  I still remember the days of Windows 95, when I broke the operating system and got the “windows protection error” and spent hours trying to figure out how to fix it. There was always the question of, “how does this work?” It’s kind of similar with coding and design. “This doesn’t work, why?” or the other way around. No matter what direction life went, I always come back to gaming and tech. Now, with pursuing this degree in Game Design, not only can I continue asking those pesky “why” questions, but I can learn from those industry veterans who have been there and know the in’s and out’s.

Personal Summary

Army Background

Before I even graduated high school I volunteered to join the United States Army going into their Delayed Entry Program. After graduating early, I went straight into basic training then on to military intelligence. Specifically 35N, Signals Intelligence Analyst, and held one of the highest security clearances (TS/SCI) in the country. While at my unit not only did I work on critical intelligence analysis, but I was also for a time attached to supply keeping track of over $10 million worth of equipment.

Tech History

I am always dabbling in tech, whether it’s hardware or software. Trying to figure out the inner-works, from running and maintaining an in-home server (on which this website is run), to working with AWS or Azure cloud systems, having the mindset of “Challenge Accepted” has been my greatest ally during my self learning experience.

Above All, Learn Something

This is a personal maxim. I see myself as an eternal student regardless of the subject with specialized interests in history and tech. There is always something new to learn; always a new challenge to face. To me, if you stop learning, you stop growing. Whether it be growing in a skillset or growing to become a better version of yourself; the mentality is the same regardless. But the end goal should be to pass on what you learn to others so I seek to do that as well.
